If you've ever traveled along 89A north through Sedona, you've most likely encountered a bridge at the side of the road, just as you're heading into Oak Creek Canyon. This is Midgley Bridge, and it's a place I must stop at every time I'm in the area. One of the best views in Arizona has to be at the Midgley Bridge Observation Site. With its location at the mouth of Oak Creek Canyon, the views are hard to beat.
My favorite overlook in the entire state is at the Midgley Bridge Observation Site in Sedona. Not only is is a spectacular overlook but a popular picnic spot.
First, let's discuss the beauty of Midgely Bridge — I, for one, am completely in awe of its construction. Built over Wilson Canyon in 1930, this medium-span steel deck arch bridge is a dramatic site at any angle.
And then there are the views — the panoramic views — to take in from the rocky area around the bridge. If you've ever stopped here, you can see why it's a favorite overlook spot of mine and many others.
From this vantage point, you'll see Mitten Ridge along with the iconic red rocks that Sedona is best known for.
You may want to bring a picnic with you as there are a few picnic tables here. You can't beat this view while having lunch!
The only thing is that parking can be a little bit of a problem, especially on the weekends. The lot is small but you may have some luck and find something straight away. I've only ever had to wait a few minutes for a spot.
If you really want to immerse yourself in the wondrous landscape around Midgley Bridge, take a hike along the Midgley Bridge Trail. This out-and-back trail is just over a mile long and rated as moderate, and it's so worth it!
