If you're in search of a new place to take a dip this summer, look no further than Horton Creek. Reaching this spring-fed oasis takes a bit of effort, but the embrace of the cool, refreshing water is worth every drop of sweat. See for yourself:
Nestled up in Rim Country, Horton Creek is a spring-fed oasis that families have been splashing around in for ages.
It's accessible via the 8.6-mile Horton Creek Trail, which winds through the dense pine trees of the Tonto National Forest.
With an elevation gain of just under 2,500 feet, the trail features sweeping panoramic vistas of the surrounding mountain landscape.
It's a gradual incline, so hikers of most skill levels should have no trouble navigating the ascent.
Upon finally reaching the creek, you'll be awestruck at the scene in front of you.
A waterfall, fed either by snow runoff or a monsoon storm, cascades down a series of moss-covered rocks into a pool of crystal-clear water.
The water remains quite chilly year-round, but it feels nice on a hot summer day.
And while the creek is too shallow to practice your cannonball skills, it's perfect for dipping your feet in to cool off after a difficult trek through the woods.
