To me, there’s nothing that quite encapsulates summer more than heading out to Rim Country to do some hiking, camping, or other outdoorsy activity. If you feel the same way, you will definitely want to check out one of these fantastic waterfront trails to get you in the mood for some cooler weather hiking. In fact, we looked at some similar trails in June and since Arizona has more hiking trails than you might imagine, we decided to feature a few more.
1. Barbershop Trail #91
This trail is a good start for an escape into cooler weather and beautiful landscapes. Measuring 4.5 miles one-way, this trail curves through meadows, towering trees, and past small springs and a creek. Trail information: Hike Arizona
2. Huckaby Trail #161
Just shy of six miles as a round trip, this trail is a relatively easy one that follows and eventually crosses Oak Creek in Sedona. During your hike, you will get to see some of the scenic areas of Sedona from a distance. Trail Information: Hike Arizona
3. James Canyon
If you’re looking for a particularly challenging hike that has a bit of rappelling for added fun, you’ll want to check out this 4-mile hike south of Flagstaff. This one is pretty advanced and we recommend only doing this one if you’re adept in mountain climbing and rappelling. Trail information: Hike Arizona
4. Parker Canyon Lake Trail #128
If you happen to be down near Sedona, this is a nice little spot to enjoy. The hike is easy to distinguish since it, for the most part, follows the perimeter of the lake for 5.2 miles. Trail information: Hike Arizona
5. Parsons Trail #144
We recently featured this trail in an article but it’s one still worth mentioning in case you missed it. This trail follows a portion of Sycamore Creek for about 4 miles (one way) and will lead you through some very pretty landscape that transitions from desert to forest. Trail information: Forest Service
6. Red Rock Crossing
Only have an hour to spare during your trip to Sedona? You won’t want to miss this very short hike down to a picturesque spot just south of Cathedral Rock and Crescent Moon Ranch. It is just over a half mile in total and does require some careful steps in some steep areas. Trail information: Hike Arizona
7. Rock Crossing Trail #18
This trail leads you around the Blue Ridge Reservoir area, which includes crossing the reservoir twice. Overall, the trail measures almost 4.5 miles over and back but if you’re like most visitors, you’ll only hike the 1.2 mile portion that doesn’t require trying to figure out how to cross the reservoir. Trail information: Forest Service
8. West Baldy Trail #94
Doesn’t this look peaceful? This trail follows the West Fork of the Little Colorado River through meadows and forest to the boundaries of the White Mountain Apache Reservation. Trail information: Forest Service
