When people think of Arizona, images of water and islands rarely come to mind. But did you know Arizona is home to quite a few islands? Most didn't exist until the reservoirs were filled but they're still considered islands these days. Here are a few islands that you can visit right here in Arizona:
1. Antelope Island
This large island in Lake Powell is large and flat with some decent beaches. It is accessible if the water level is high enough and some people have camped there as well.
2. Pittsburg Point in Lake Havasu City
Originally a peninsula in the Colorado River, part of founder Robert McCulloch's vision for Lake Havasu City included an island. These days you cross the London Bridge to get to this makeshift island.
3. Channel Island in Lake Mead
This island sits on the Arizona side of the Colorado River and Lake Mead. It is currently uninhabited and undeveloped but some people visit it when boating in the area.
4. Islands at Roosevelt Lake
5. Islands at Lake Pleasant
Lake Pleasant has several little islands scattered around and just like many of the other reservoir islands, these are uninhabited.
6. Islands at Encanto Park
Okay, this one seems like a bit of a cop out but the park does have several little islands, including their little theme park, Enchanted Island. Plus, what can beat such an accessible little waterfront spot in the middle of a metropolitan area?
