In addition to the hot weather, Arizona is best known for its dramatic scenery. Every step across this land reveals another glimpse into a dreamy landscape you can’t find anywhere else. The only thing that makes these places more mesmerizing is the weather. The land glistens under the rain, dons striking hues in the setting sun, and looks simply stunning when coated in a layer of snow.
Just this week, we came across a video from photographer and videographer Harun Mehmedinovic that shows off the Grand Canyon’s beauty in the clouds. The video is part of a project called Skyglow, which examines the effects of light pollution in North America. While this particular video doesn’t show much of the night sky, the Grand Canyon was designated a Dark Sky Park last year and is one the best spots to watch the sky sparkle with stars.
The video shows a total cloud inversion occurring at the Grand Canyon, a natural occurrence in which warm and cold air interact to create what most of us know as fog. It’s stunning, looking something like an ocean of clouds rolling through each canyon crevice. If you're lucky, you'll get to see this on a winter day.
To better illustrate just how incredible this is, let's take a quick look at what you'll typically see when looking at the Desert View Watchtower on any given day of the year.
Lovely, right?
Now, let's see what you'll find when there's a total cloud inversion happening at the Grand Canyon from a similar perspective.
Wow! In the video below, you can watch those clouds in action, as they flow in and out like an ocean tide. It's a captivating sight and the ethereal music adds a layer of mystery the to scene.
You can find more of Mehmedinovic’s stunning Skyglow time-lapse videos on his Vimeo page, which can be found here. They’re all quite amazing and best viewed in fullscreen at a high resolution.
