The most unique things living at Dismals Canyon, which you'll be able to see once it turns dark, are the dismalites. Dismalites are rare insects that resemble glowworms, and Dismals Canyon is one of the few places in the world where you'll find them.

The best time to see dismalites is during these two peak seasons: spring peak, which is late April through May, and fall peak, which is late September to the beginning of October. Dismalites can be seen via a guided night tour. We have the Dismalite Guided Night Tour Schedule for you!

But what you may not realize is that our state's claims to fame include several spots that resemble other natural wonders around the state, country, and even the world. One look-alike natural wonder in Alabama that's a definite must-see is the White Cliffs of Epes in the town of Epes. This unique geological wonder in Alabama is a special spot that towers above the rest of the landscape and has a unique, ancient makeup. Check it out:

Alabama's White Cliffs of Epes stretch along the banks of the Tombigbee River in the tiny town of Epes.
