Monte Sano State Park, located within the Huntsville area, covers 2,140 acres on the eastern section of Monte Sano Mountain. Monte Sano State Park officially opened on August 25, 1938.
During the late 1800s, many people from across the U.S. traveled to the area to enjoy Monte Sano's mineral springs and fresh air. Monte Sano Mountain is the park's main feature, and "Monte Sano" means "mountain of health."
