Nothing says summer vacation like a trip to the beach. Alabama is home to some of the finest beaches in the U.S.. If you're still unsure of where to spend your summer vacation, consider these eight Alabama beaches:

1. Fort Morgan Beach - Gulf Shores

If history interests you as much as relaxing on the beach, Fort Morgan Beach is the perfect place to be. Fort Morgan, a historic 19th century military base, is surrounded on three sides by gorgeous beaches. So, if history doesn't interest you in the least bit, the beach is only a short distance away. It's also far less crowded when compared to several other beaches in Alabama. Fort Morgan's address is 110 State Hwy 180, Gulf Shores, AL 36542.

2. Cotton Bayou Beach - Orange Beach

Cotton Bayou Beach is an easily-accessed beach that has lifeguards, restrooms, showers and FREE parking. Beach-goers flock to this beautiful beach for those very reasons. Cotton Bayou Beach is located in Orange Beach at the intersection of Hwy 161 and Hwy 182.

3. Fairhope Municipal Pier Beach

This beach is located next to the Fairhope Municipal Pier and is perfect for strolling and/or relaxing. While strolling along this beach, don't be surprised if you happen to see several shorebirds. They love the area! During the summer, there's no charge for use of the pier. However, there is a charge for use of the beach., so keep this in mind if you plan to visit this beach this summer. Fairhope Municipal Pier and Beach is located at 4 North Beach Road.

4. Gulf Shores Public Beach

Gulf Shores has the most gorgeous white sand beaches and turquoise clear water. In addition to its beautiful beaches, Gulf Shores' wonderful restaurants and shopping options help make this town the ultimate vacation destination. On this beach, you can expect to see beach volleyball, beachside bars and lifeguards. If you visit this beach, be sure to arrive before all of the decent spots are taken. For all-day parking, expect to pay $5. This public beach is located where Hwy 59 ends.

5. Romar Beach - Orange Beach

For a quick beach stroll or picnic, check out Romar Beach. This beautiful beach is located between Seaside B&R Club and Phoenix V Condominiums. There's also a boardwalk that'll lead you directly to the beach. Keep in mind, this beach has no additional facilities.

6. Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge Beach - Gulf Shores

If you happen to be on the Alabama coastline, a visit to the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge is a must! The beach at the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge is, of course, all about the wildlife. However, you're welcome to take a dip if you need to cool off. Before visiting this beach, keep in mind that pets aren't allowed and there are no public facilities. The Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge is open year-round and is located at 12295 State Hwy 180 W, Gulf Shores, AL 36542.

7. Dauphin Island Public Beach

Dauphin Island is a 14-mile island that's located just off the coastline of Alabama. It features stretches of beautiful white sand beaches that can be accessed by bridge or ferry. This island is also home to the only pet-friendly beach in the region. If you visit Dauphin Island, keep in mind that there are public access fees. These fees include: $5 per car, $2 per adult and $20 for RVs, buses and trailers.

8. Gulf State Park Beach - Gulf Shores

Gulf State Park encompasses 6,000+ acres, which is most of the area between Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. This serene park includes 2 miles of beautiful beaches. If relaxing on the beach isn't really your thing, there are several other activities offered at this state park such as hiking, zip lining, camping and golfing. Gulf State Park is located at 20115 State Hwy 135, Gulf Shores, AL 36542.
