Covering more than 181,000 acres, North Alabama's Bankhead National Forest is one of the Southeast's top outdoor destinations.
One of the many reasons why it's such a popular spot is the fact that it offers more than 90 miles of recreational trails.
While exploring many of these trails, you can't help but feel like you've entered a fairy tale. The surrounding scenery is truly magical!
In addition to trails, moss-covered boulders, and peaceful streams, other features you'll discover while hiking through North Alabama's Bankhead National Forest include some of the state's most mystical waterfalls, including Sougahoagdee Falls. Sougahoagdee Falls, which is approximately 30 feet tall, can be reached via the Sougahoagdee Falls Trail.
Another waterfall you'll encounter is Shangri-La Falls. It can be reached via the Shangri-La Falls Trail and is one of the state's most beautiful hidden waterfalls.
Although not as tall as the previous two waterfalls, Kinlock Falls is quite special in its own way. Not only is it surrounded by lots of beautiful natural scenery, especially this time of year, but it's also one of Alabama's most accessible waterfalls. Kinlock Falls can be reached via the Kinlock Falls Trail.
