1. Railroad Park - Birmingham, AL
Railroad Park is located in downtown Birmingham and lies south of the Norfolk Southern and CSX rail lines. This 19-acre park offers visitors local recreation, family-friendly activities, live concerts and a variety of cultural events. Railroad Park opened in Fall 2010 and is known as "Birmingham's Living Room."
2. Big Spring International Park - Huntsville, AL
Big Spring International Park (Big Spring Park) is located in downtown Huntsville. It's known for hosting several events throughout the year, including the Panoply Arts Festival and Concerts in the Park. Something that makes this park truly unique is the special structures located throughout it. Examples of these structures include the lighthouse and the park's famous red bridge. The lighthouse and famous red bridge were both gifts to the city of Huntsville. The lighthouse was from Norway and the famous red bridge was from Japan. Interesting fact: Big Spring International Park was a major filming location in the 2005 feature film Constellation.
3. Riverfront Park - Montgomery, AL
Riverfront Park, located along the banks of the Alabama River, is an entertainment destination. This park features concerts, riverboat rides, baseball in Riverwalk Stadium, access to the river via boat ramp, a long shoreline for fishing and several walking trails.
4. Fairhope Municipal Park & Pier - Fairhope, AL
Fairhope Municipal Park is a popular park that draws both locals and out-of-towners. A couple of its main features are a beautiful rose garden and lovely fountain. It also offers visitors a pavilion, several picnic tables, a tree trail and a large sandy beach area. Fairhope Pier is considered the city's "town square," and it was built for strolling and fishing. This park area is the most popular spot in Fairhope.
5. Orr Park - Montevallo, AL
Orr Park is one of the most unique parks in the entire South. It features typical park amenities for its visitors, including picnic tables, ball fields and walking trails. Shoal Creek provides park visitors with fishing, kayaking and canoeing opportunities. What makes Orr Park truly special and one-of-a-kind is Tim Tingle's "Tinglewood Trail," which features his artistic cedar tree carvings. If you've never strolled down Orr Park's Tinglewood Trail, you're truly missing out.
6. Blount Cultural Park - Montgomery, AL
Blount Cultural Park is home to three main attractions: Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, and the Hannah Daye Ridling Bark Park. This 250-acre park features walking trails, a natural amphitheater, gorgeous scenery and several ponds.
7. Spring Park - Tuscumbia, AL
Spring Park is one of Tuscumbia's main attractions. Located only a short drive from the city's downtown area, this wonderful park is a great place for the entire family. It offers visitors a playground, covered pavilions, restaurants, picnic tables and a walking path. Its special features include Cold Water Falls (the largest known man-made waterfall), a roller coaster, a carousel, a train and a light/fountain show. In addition to its many amenities, Spring Park is also the site for various events, including the annual Helen Keller Festival.
8. The Park at Manderson Landing (Riverwalk) - Tuscaloosa, AL
The Park at Manderson Landing features eight acres of walking trails along the Black Warrior River. Located on the north side of the University of Alabama campus, this park provides college students a great escape from the busyness of college life.
9. Cooper Riverside Park - Mobile, AL
Cooper Riverside Park is located in the heart of downtown Mobile, and it offers a spectacular view of the Mobile River. Park visitors also have a great view of Mobile's busy port.
