There's no denying that this year started off on a rather strange note, both here in Montana and around the globe. However, all of our wonderful attractions and natural wonders are now opening back up, and there's still plenty of time to create an outdoor bucket list. If one of your goals was to see more of our beautiful state this year, we highly recommend checking out these seven spots before 2021.
1. Lewis and Clark Caverns
Did you know Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park was Montana's first state park, dating back to 1936? Of course, the cave itself is much, much older -- and it's an incredible place to tour.
2. Kootenai Falls
Montana has 120 named waterfalls, each of them magnificent in its own way. But there's truly something remarkable about Kootenai Falls, which sits tucked up in the northwest portion of the state near Libby. The waterfall is easy to reach and stunning to see.
3. Gates of the Mountains
If you've ever taken the Gates of the Mountains boat tour, you already know how visually stunning this canyon near Helena is. And if you have yet to experience it, you owe it to yourself to go.
4. Medicine Rocks State Park
Eastern Montana has its own rugged beauty as it is, but Medicine Rocks State Park is simply in a league of its own. Located near Ekalaka, this tranquil park is full of unique topography and local history.
5. Flathead Lake
Flathead Lake is an icon. No matter how many times you see it, it takes your breath away at first glance. We're lucky to have it here in Montana, and it's a natural wonder we should never take for granted.
6. The Rimrocks (Billings)
Hopefully, everyone in the Billings area is already acquainted with these massive rimrock sandstone formations. They were formed over millions of years, and the view from the top is unreal.
7. Glacier National Park
How could we not include Glacier National Park on this list? This is where social distancing was born, and it's a place every Montanan deserves to be at some point this year.
How many of these places have you been missing this year? What would you add to this list?
