Dearest tourists, the people of Montana have a message for you: Winters here are terrible. We've grown accustomed to them, but we think you'd be better off saving your money and visiting in the summer, when you cal flock to our most popular tourist destinations while we relax by the secret lakes you'll never know about (sorry).
Unconvinced? We'll give you 10 good reasons to steer clear of the Treasure State in the winter.
1. First, it’s hideously ugly.
Montana's natural beauty is definitely seasonal.
2. There is absolutely nothing to do in Montana in the winter.
Nothing at all.
3. Everyone just stays inside and waits for spring.
Events like the Whitefish Winter Carnival are way too cold, and no one ever goes.
4. Winter hikes are such a waste of time.
Why bother, when all that scenery is covered in snow?
5. The wildlife hibernates. All of it.
6. Good luck going on a road trip across the state before mid-May (if you’re lucky).
Many of our roads are too treacherous for travel.
7. Did we mention absolutely everything shuts down?
It's ridiculous.
8. It gets insanely cold.
Look how miserable these poor children are, all bundled up.
9. The waterfalls all freeze.
Who wants to see that? This is Firehole Falls, located in the West Yellowstone end of the national park.
10. It's impossible to find any fresh food.
The Missoula Valley Winter Market is really difficult to find.
If you’ve read this far, you’ve probably realized that Montana is absolutely amazing in any season. If you’d still like to visit, we’ll give you a friendly welcome--but there are a few things we’d like you to know.
