It's no secret that we love our huckleberries here in Montana. Montana's prized fruit is grown mostly in the northwest part of the state, and that's where you'll find the Huckleberry Patch, a shop dedicated to all things huckleberry. And while it may seem cruel to draw attention to such a place when winter is on its way and huckleberries are out of season, fear not -- this place is open all year.
The Huckleberry Patch is located in Hungry Horse, the unofficial wild huckleberry capital of the west.
The shop opened in 1949, and it has been going strong ever since.
Huckleberries grown here are special. They grow only in moist mountain areas and cannot be commercially grown.
This means they're not sprayed with chemicals or fertilizers. They're simply hand picked when they're ripe.
We love pie in Montana, especially huckleberry pie. And this place is famous for theirs.
We dare say that a pie from the Huckleberry Patch will rival many homemade pies in flavor.
You'll find all kinds of freshly made (and canned) huckleberry products on the shelves.
Huckleberry jam, pancake and waffle topping, huckleberry honey, pie topping... you name it.
They even sell a lot of non-edible items, like chapstick, lotion, bath salts and candles.
The smell of huckleberries is just as amazing as the taste.
The Huckleberry Patch isn't just for shopping. You can enjoy a delicious breakfast or lunch, too.
The huckleberry pancakes are amazing.
Good news for Huckleberry Patch lovers: A second location opened in Arlee.
They have just as many tasty treats as the original.
The Huckleberry Patch might be the best place in Montana to find huckleberry treats, but it's not the only one. Here are some of the best places to go when you're craving huckleberry dishes.
