Think Montana and the Caribbean don’t have anything in common? Think again! The two may be miles apart, but they both boast pristine, blue water that’s perfect for a refreshing dip. In the case of Montana, you just have to look a bit harder to find such a spot – and if you look hard enough, you’ll stumble upon Wade Lake. A true hidden gem, it’s as secluded as can be. But, like most hidden gems, it’s well worth seeking out!
Wade Lake is the centerpiece of the Wade Lake Campground, which is in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest.
Surrounded by towering cliffs and boasting vibrant blue waters, the spring-fed lake is a true oasis.
It’s nestled in a valley, so accessing it means navigating some rough roads.
But the effort is well worth it because it’s positively breathtaking!
Several beaches dot the lake, making it easy to splash around in its pristine waters.
Aside from swimming, the lake is commonly used for fishing. It’s also a prime spot for canoeing and kayaking.
Don’t want to haul a kayak or canoe to Wade Lake? No problem; the nearby Wade Lake Resort rents canoes and kayaks. It also offers lodging.
There are a few things to keep in mind when visiting Wade Lake. First, you’ll be swimming at your own risk.
Second, there is no cell phone coverage in the area, so make sure to plan accordingly, especially if coordinating a visit with others.
