No storefront display could ever compare to picking out your pumpkins from a pumpkin patch. There is just something about scouting for your own pumpkins that really puts you in an autumn state of mind. Traipsing through a field dotted with bold, orange pumpkins is a rite of passage that belongs on everyone's fall bucket list! Happily, the Treasure State is home to some idyllic farms where you'll find the most picture-perfect pumpkins each fall -- plus lots of other festivities like hayrides and corn mazes, too! Here are the best pumpkin patches in Montana to go for fall festivities this year:
1. Sweet Pickin’s Pumpkin Patch, Kalispell
Sweet Pickin’s started as a small family business in 2002. They’re still a family owned farm, but they’re now one of the most popular places in the state. They offer rides, fresh kettle corn and a giant jumping pillow for kids of all ages. They’re open daily until Halloween, and truly one of the best pumpkin patches in Montana!
2. Applestem Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch, Vaughn
Applestern is open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through Halloween. They've got a huge variety of pumpkins for you to take home, but their main draw is their epic corn maze, which you can read all about on their website!
3. Meadowlark Farm, Hamilton
Meadowlark Farm has been around for nearly a decade, but they opened a U-pick pumpkin patch in 2014. They’re open select dates through Halloween, and you can pick up some decorative corn stalks and gourds while you’re there. They also have some rides and activities for their young visitors, making this farm one of the best fall day trip destinations in Montana!
4. Rocky Creek Farm, Bozeman
Located about four miles east of Bozeman on Frontage Road, Rocky Creek Farm’s pumpkin patch is select days through Halloween. Here you’ll find free hayrides, straw forts, sheep, pigs and a haunted swamp here as well as your future jack-o-lanterns. Don’t leave without picking some delicious fall raspberries if they have them!
5. Missoula Maze - CLOSED FOR 2021
Enjoy the huge pumpkin patch, obstacle course, mini maze, petting zoo, Treasure Hunt Thursdays and pony rides on Fridays at the Missoula Maze.
Editor's Note: Missoula Maze is not operating in 2021, as the owners are currently in the process of looking for new management for the farm. Check back at their Missoula Maze website for updates and more information as it develops.
6. Montana Corn Maze, Manhattan
This beautiful farm has a tricky maze which is drawn and cut without using computers or a GPS. When (if) you find your way out, you can pick up some of the pumpkins they have for sale. Montana Corn Maze is open select days of the week through Halloween.
Have you been to any of these best pumpkin patches in Montana before? They are all absolutely delightful, and well-worth visiting this fall!
