Sometimes you want to get away from home and have a nice relaxing vacation, but you don't want to mess with traveling to far off places. Luckily, Missouri has lots of great options right here in your own back yard.
1. St. Louis
There’s so much to do in the city of St. Louis! In Forest Park alone, you can visit an art museum, zoo, or planetarium, see a show at The Muny, marvel at a beautiful waterfall and so much more. Explore Delmar Loop and grab a great meal at one of the many delicious restaurants. Visit Laclede’s Landing for some nightlife or to check out a casino on the river. Ride to the top of the Gateway Arch to get a spectacular view of the city. Catch a Cardinals game at Busch Stadium. Stay at one of the city’s great hotels. With so much to do, the biggest challenge is that there isn’t enough time to do it all!

2. Branson
Branson is well-known for being a top family vacation destination. At the 1800s themed Silver Dollar City, you can ride the rides and enjoy the shows. The strip is lined with theaters that play host to a wide variety of musical entertainment. The nearby Table Rock Lake is perfect for an outdoor water adventure and has beautiful views. See a replica of the doomed ship and explore the Titanic Museum. Visit Marvel Cave or sip some wine at the Stone Hill Winery.

3. Jefferson City
Take a trip to our capital city, which also happens to be one of our prettiest. Visit the Capitol Building or the Governor’s mansion and learn about Missouri’s history. Explore the Runge Nature Center and appreciate the quiet beauty of nature. Take a tour of the notorious Missouri State Penitentiary. Enjoy a delicious meal at one of Jefferson City’s many fine eateries.

4. Hannibal
Explore the world of one of Missouri’s most beloved natives, author Mark Twain. Visit his boyhood home and explore the numerous spots throughout town that served as inspiration for his books. Visit the beautiful Rockcliffe Mansion or explore the Mark Twain Cave. Sip some wine at Cave Hollow West Winery or take a river boat cruise down the Mighty Mississippi.

5. Kansas City
Visit the land of jazz and fountains in Missouri’s largest city. For some of the country’s greatest shopping, dining and entertainment, check out Country Club Plaza. Don’t miss shopping at the City Market. Check out the giant shuttlecocks at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Visit the Liberty Memorial or check out a Royals game at Kaufman Stadium. For family fun, be sure to visit Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun, Kansas City’s amusement and water parks. Celebrate our history by visiting the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, the Arabia Steamboat Museum, or the National World War 1 Museum.

6. Lake of the Ozarks
Located right in the center of the state is one of Missouri’s best spots for outdoor recreation and fun on the water. You can visit Ha Ha Tonka State Park and check out the castle ruins. Learn about the history of the lake at the Willmore Lodge. Marvel at the man-made wonder at Bagnell Dam. Sip some wine at Seven Springs Winery or check out how moonshine is made and have a taste at Ozark Distillery. Stay in one of the many beautiful lodges and resorts or a delightful bed and breakfast, and enjoy the multitude of delicious dining options.

7. Missouri Wine Country
Missouri is the perfect spot for a premium wine tour. Missouri Wine Country plays host to a large number or vineyards and wineries, along with a wonderful selection of charming bed and breakfasts to stay in. A great example of a three-day wine tour could start at Mount Pleasant Winery and the Wine Country Inn in Augusta for day one. The second day could find you in Hermann at Stone Hill Winery and the Stone House. On the final day you could be in Rocheport at the beautiful Les Bourgeois Vineyards and staying at the School House Bed and Breakfast.
