An old-fashioned Christmas might conjure images of days gone by – when we were kids, waiting for Santa on Christmas Eve, opening gifts, and digging into a delicious meal made by grandma or grandpa. However, if you’ve ever wondered what Christmas was like long before that, during Victorian times, you'll get a glimpse when you embark on this Victorian Christmas tour in Missouri.
Nestled in Cape Girardeau, The Glenn House has been a fixture on the landscape since it was built for local businessman David Glenn and his wife Lula in 1883.
The Victorian home is decorated with furniture and other pieces from the era, allowing you to feel as though you’ve traveled back in time.
Welcoming guests seasonally from May through October, the historic house will host a Victorian Christmas tour on December 10-11 and December 17-18, 2022. The hour-long tours begin at 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m.
If you’re a night owl or can’t make it during the day, The Glenn House will hold a Candlelight Tour on the December 11 and 17 at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Each year’s tour features a new theme. This year’s theme, A Christmas Through Time, will take you on a journey of Christmases past as you learn about the treasured Christmas traditions during Victorian times.
Join your tour guide, who will lead you from room to room, sharing stories and details about long-held customs.
More fun awaits at The Glenn House on December 16 and 27, 2022. The historic house will host its Spirited Christmas celebration. Sip a delicious Christmas cocktail as you listen to ghost stories by candlelight.
Spirited Christmas runs 30 minutes and will be held each half an hour, starting at 6 p.m. The final session kicks off at 8:30 p.m.
