Settle into your cozy seat, preferably by the window, as you wait for the Missouri River Runner to begin its chug along the tracks, starting at Gateway Station in St. Louis and rolling along until its final stop at Union Station in Kansas City.

If you’re up for the entire journey, sit back, relax, and enjoy the five-hour, 40-minute ride to Kansas City. Catch the next train back to St. Louis, once you arrive, if you’ve only got a day, or spend the night in Kansas City.

The Missouri River Runner also stops at more than half of a dozen other Missouri cities and towns, including Independence, Sedalia, and Hermann. Pick a town to visit, hop off, explore, and then hitch the return train back at the end of the day.

When you get hungry, head over to the café, which serves breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Start your ride off on a sweet note with a cinnamon roll or donut holes then have a White Castle burger for lunch.

The menu features something for everyone, including vegetarians and vegans.

The train also offers wifi service and, if you need earbuds, you can purchase them and playing cards in the café.

The trip from St. Louis to Kansas City starts at around $60 one-way for coach. Business class tickets are also available.
