Winter in Missouri is unpredictable, to say the least. Snow, rain, ice, sleet, hail, or sun...it's all possible. We can, and often do, experience all four seasons in a single 24-hour stretch. On the other hand, when the temperature drops and the landscapes freeze, you can see some pretty amazing sights unique to any other time of the year. Here are a few times the ice and snow added a new perspective, showing off the true magic of winter in MO.
1. Geese at Twin Lakes, Columbia
A beautiful contrast of the geese with the cold, dreary lake and bare trees, captured in this snapshot of Twin Lakes in Columbia, is proof of the beauty of winters in Missouri. If you're looking for some of the best things to do in Missouri for winter, head to your favorite park that offers hiking and maybe even snowshoeing or cross-country skiing.
2. Tangle of Trees, Ozarks
The snow causes the trees to blend together, so you can't tell which limbs belong to which tree. Isn't winter in MO simply spellbinding? Sometimes nothing compares to cozying up under a warm blanket and staring out of the window at the winter landscape in Missouri.
3. Icy fence near Kingsville
Everything frozen makes it look otherworldly. Capturing these winter moments with our camera is one of the best things to do in Missouri in winter.
4. Missouri River
What is winter like in MO? While it can certainly be brutal with snow, ice, and freezing temperatures, as this photo of a snow-capped Missouri River illustrates, it's breathtaking, too. One of my favorite memories of Missouri is driving past the Missouri River on a chilly winter day as the snow started to tumble down.
6. Frozen Trees at Cape Fair
While one of the best things to do in Missouri for the winter is hiking, I don't think I'd want to take a walk through there. However, it's pretty to look at, right?
7. Ballwin Geese
Gorgeous! Winter in Missouri promises so many picture-perfect moments (and unbelievable photos). Bundle up, sit on a bench by the water, and watch the geese in Ballwin on a snowy winter day.
8. Ice in Cape Girardeau
Ice floats on the water in this gorgeous snapshot from Cape Girardeau. Have you been to Cape Girardeau, one of the best winter towns in Missouri, during the coldest months of the year?
9. Behind the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City
A walk between the frozen trees is an idyllic way to spend a winter afternoon. However, one of the best things to do in Missouri for the winter is sledding. Enjoy an adrenaline rush and the breathtaking winter scenery.
10. Snowy Sunday in Columbia
A lone bench near a snowy path is surrounded by beautiful white. Sometimes there's nothing better on a winter day in Missouri than going for a relaxing stroll.
11. Cole County Courthouse in Jefferson City
Winter in Missouri is simply magical as this snapshot of Jefferson City, sprinkled with snow, illustrates. If you're up for an adventure, visit one of the best winter towns in Missouri.
