Foxworth is a tiny little community in Marion County that’s home to fewer than 1,000 residents, and while many wouldn’t consider this town a tourist destination, it’s home to a hidden gem that’s a hiker’s paradise. Red Bluff is a fascinating canyon in Mississippi that will leave you speechless. Who knew this incredible natural wonder was hiding in plain sight right here in the Magnolia State?
When you first see Red Bluff, you’re going to have a hard time believing you’re in Mississippi. After all, it’s not your typical Mississippi landscape!
This area earned the nickname "Mississippi’s Little Grand Canyon" for a reason, and it’s one of Mississippi’s most dramatic and impressive natural formations.
Red Bluff was created by erosion from the nearby Pearl River.
The erosion has revealed some truly stunning red clay sediments that just gleam in the sunlight.
The erosion has actually caused Highway 587 to relocate. Twice.
You can still see what’s left of the road when you visit. Obviously, the road is closed to vehicles, and we’d caution anyone about getting too close to the edge in this area.
There are a few different trails that will lead you to Red Bluff, and all of them are going to require you to scramble a bit.
These are primitive trails, too, and that red clay is known to be a bit of a mess, so be prepared to get dirty!

The bluff rises to an elevation of 371 feet above sea level, giving you some stunning treetop views.
There's not much shade once you get to the top of the canyon, so keep that in mind! Bring plenty of water and maybe a hat, too.
There's a little creek that runs down along the bottom.
Take the trail down and enjoy the sounds of the water trickling its way down to the river.
Since it's such a hidden gem, you may find that you have the entire canyon to yourself on your visit!
King of the canyon!
