It’s a known fact that fried food is a big deal in Mississippi. But what many don’t know is that the fried pickle was invented right here in the Magnolia State. Well, at least according to one small town café. The eatery’s accolades don’t end there, though. It’s got lots more going for it, including some of the best burgers in America. Take a look:
One of the many surprises hiding in Mississippi, The Hollywood Café is tucked away in the unincorporated community of Robinsonville.
But don’t let its modest appearance fool you. The small café has made a big impact on the world – in several ways.
Singer Marc Cohen immortalized the eatery in his song Walking in Memphis, referencing its soulful live music.
Its musical past is still very much alive – and it’s all thanks to the variety of memorabilia scattered throughout the café.
But being mentioned in a hit song isn’t the café’s only claim to fame.
It’s also touted as the birthplace of the deep-fried pickle.
And whether or not fried pickles were invented at The Hollywood Cafe, there’s one thing diners seem to agree on – they’re absolutely delicious. In fact, many past patrons have called them the best fried pickles ever.
The café fries up more than great pickles, though. Just last year, it was named one of the top 10 places to eat fried food in Mississippi.
2019 brought another honor to the café. Its signature hamburger, the Belly Buster was named one of the top 100 best burgers in the USA.
Teeming with history and history-making grub, The Hollywood Café serves up one heck of a dining experience.
