Bundle up and buckle up! It’s going to be a roller coaster of a winter. According to the Farmers’ Almanac winter weather forecast for the 2022-2023 season, most of the country, including Mississippi, will experience below-average temperatures. The publication went on to say that it will be a season of shaking, shivering, and shoveling. But what does that mean for Mississippi? Let's take a closer look:
Just like it has since 1818, the Farmers’ Almanac has released its extended winter forecast for the 2022-2023 season. And it seems like we're in for a very cold winter. According to the forecast, the entire U.S. can expect “notable month-to-month variations” as far as temperatures go.
December 21, 2022, officially marks the first day of winter, but the Farmers' Almanac winter weather forecast is actually predicting December to be much colder and snowier than in previous years. Perhaps parts of Mississippi will be seeing a white Christmas?
January is the month to keep an eye on.
Get ready to bundle up! The almanac is forecasting record-breaking low temperatures across the country, and it's very possible Mississippi could be seeing its own record-breaking temperatures, and perhaps even some snowfall in areas that typically don't see snow.
January will be full of cold, rainy days...and maybe some snow.
If the predictions are accurate, then the country will be seeing a massive blast of arctic air come through in the middle of January, which will last until the end of the month. This arctic blast will bring some of the coldest temperatures we've seen in years. We're talking 40 below zero! Of course, by the time it reaches Mississippi, it won't be that cold, but you'll definitely be reaching for your heavy-duty jacket during this time.
February will be much warmer, but don't break out your bathing suits just yet.
According to the almanac, February will bring the more normal winter temperatures the southern half of the country is used to. Lots of rain, too.
In March, precipitation levels will return to normal nationwide and we'll begin to see signs of spring. That doesn’t mean the month will be uneventful, though.
The Farmers Almanac winter forecast for Mississippi is predicting a roller coaster of weather throughout the month – while we most likely won't be seeing any snow, we can expect a lot of rain and thunderstorms to come through. Once we get through the storms, we'll be well on our way to springtime flowers and more comfortable temperatures!
