Sometimes, a long walk through the woods is all you need. There are so many awesome hiking trails in Mississippi to explore, but this special trail is a bit of a hidden gem. Next time you want to get your steps in, check out the Possum Trail in southern Mississippi. Let’s check it out: 

The Possum Walk Trail is a roughly 7-mile trail that runs from the INFINITY Science Center to Moss Point, Mississippi.

You’ll pass through Logtown, an old logging community that once was thriving before being relocated to make space for the 1960s Space Program.
The trail also passes by the old Dummyline Railroad.

The railroad connected Logtown to the main railroad (The New Orleans and Northeastern Railroad) and made it easy to transport lumber without using ships and barges. The sawmills in the surrounding area closed down in the 1930s and eventually the rails were salvaged, but you’ll still be able to see its footprint and signage along the trail.

Keep your eye out for the local wildlife. This area is a habitat for bears, wild hogs, copperheads, and many other creatures you would not want to get too close too.

There are signs for the different habitats so you can keep an eye out. It's also important to keep your dogs on a leash if you bring them on the trail. You wouldn't want them coming snout to snout with a wild hog!
The trail is open year-round from sunrise until sunset.
