Sure Mississippi is filled with a ton of historic homes and conventional museums just waiting to be explored but sometimes you’re looking for something a bit out of the ordinary. Well look no further, because we’ve put together a list of the state’s quirkiest museums. And while they may be off the beaten path, they are definitely worth the trip.

1. Yesterday’s Children Antique Doll and Toy Museum, Vicksburg

Revisit the past at Yesterday’s Children Antique Doll Museum. It has over 1,000 items on display which date back all the way to 1843!

2. Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum, Biloxi

Offering an inside look at one of the state’s biggest industries, the Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum offers a variety of exhibits on shrimping, oystering, recreational fishing, wetlands, managing marine resources, charter boats, marine blacksmithing, wooden boat building, netmaking, catboats/Biloxi skiff, shrimp peeling machine and numerous historic photographs and objects.

3. The Apron Museum, Iuka

The only one of its kind in the entire world, this small town museum is like taking a step back in time. Featuring thousands of aprons which date back to the 1860’s, it’s definitely a one-of-a-kind experience.

4. American Contract Bridge League Museum, Horn Lake

Love the game of bridge? Then this is the museum for you! The interactive museum not only houses the American Contract Bridge League Hall of Fame but also holds the world’s largest collection of bridge memorabilia, trophies, videos and more.

5. Birthplace of Kermit the Frog Exhibit, Leland

Jim Henson may have been born in Greenville, but his lovable green creation was born in Leland which is why the Chamber of Commerce has an exhibit dedicated to Henson, Kermit the Frog and the rest of the gang.

6. Cullis & Gladys Wade Clock Museum, Starkville

"What time is it?" is a question you won’t have to ask yourself when visiting this unique museum. With over 400 clocks dating back to the early 1700’s, you’re bound to have a great time (pun intended).

7. Catfish Museum and Welcome Center, Belzoni

Known as the catfish capital of the world, it should come as no surprise that Belzoni has a museum dedicated to catfish. Visitors to the museum can watch a video presentation which details catfish processing from start to finish. And, of course, you’ll get to meet the world’s largest catfish, King Cat.

8. Canton Movie Museums, Canton

Did you know Canton is the film capital of Mississippi? Well it is, and, as such, the city offers guided tours where you’ll be able to revisit some of your favorite movies via set pieces, assorted memorabilia, pictures, articles and more.

9. Busted Wrench Garage and Gift Shop, Gulfport

Turns out the Tupelo Automobile Museum isn’t the only one of its kind in the state. Opened since 2008, the Busted Wrench Garage and Gift Shop is a 6,000 square foot exhibit area that features rare, exotic and one-of-a-kind vehicles.

10. Biloxi Mardi Gras Museum, Biloxi

Even though Mardi Gras is most commonly associated with New Orleans, we here in Mississippi love the holiday as well. And this museum is proof! Featuring exhibits and memorabilia from Mardi Gras celebrations of the past and present as well as a gift shop, this is the perfect way to enjoy the holiday year round.

11. Biedenharn Coca-Cola Museum, Vicksburg

Learning the history of America’s favorite soft drink is closer than you think thanks to the Biedenharn Coca-Cola Museum. The Biedenharn’s were the first to bottle Coca-Cola. The family’s love for the drink didn’t end there. In 1979, they restored much of the building to its original form as well as installed multiple exhibits for Coca-Cola lovers to enjoy.
