When it comes to baked goods, if you want the freshest of the fresh, you can’t go wrong with an Amish bakery. Luckily, we have a great one here in Mississippi. Known as The Dutch Oven, it’s been churning out incredible baked goods for nearly two decades now! But that’s not all. The eatery also serves mouthwatering sandwiches – on homemade bread, of course. Take a look:
This is The Dutch Oven. Opened in 2003, it’s housed in the former Clarksdale Station Depot.
Its location in a former train depot isn’t the only unique aspect of The Dutch Oven, though. There’s also the fact that it’s owned and operated by Mennonites (who, like the Amish, are an Anabaptist sect).
The Mennonite community is often associated with tasty cooking, so it makes sense that The Dutch Oven has garnered a reputation for its fresh fare, especially its baked goods.
As soon as you set foot inside, you’re sure to notice the tantalizing aroma of fresh baked goods – all of which are made from scratch using quality ingredients.
The fresh baked offerings include a variety of breads, such as French bread, rye bread, butter horn rolls, sweet breads, and more.
There are also plenty of sweets to choose from. The cinnamon rolls and pies are among the most popular.
Every part of the pie – from the crust to the filling – is made from scratch. After one bite, you’ll quickly understand why the pie is a customer favorite.
Mile-high layered cakes are also a popular item.
The baked goods alone are reason enough to visit The Dutch Oven, but in case you need some more convincing, there’s also an array of tasty sandwiches, soups, and salads to choose from.
The sandwich menu includes classics, like the club and Reuben, as well as local favorites, like homemade pimento cheese. No matter which you order, it’ll come on fresh baked bread, making for an extra tasty pairing.
