Summer is great, don't get me wrong. But there are few things more refreshing than feeling that first cold front blow through after a long summer. And y’all, boy am I pleased as punch when those days are behind us and we can enjoy the outdoors again without the triple-digit temperatures! Fall in Mississippi is a colorful, festive time of year that brings countless opportunities to make memories and experience all of the best that the season has to offer, from pumpkin patches and corn mazes to scenic drives and apple cider. Here are just few of the best fall festivals in Mississippi to look forward to when autumn rolls around:
1. Loblolly Festival
Loblolly Festival takes place on the first Saturday of every October. Celebrating Laurel’s sawmill town roots, you can expect several vendors, live music, and good food for this one-day event. There will be plenty of kid-friendly activities, too, so bring the whole family out!
2. Gautier Mullet and Music Festival
The annual Gautier Mullet and Music Festival typically kicks off the last week of October, and it’s always a good time. Admission is free, and there will be plenty of live music, local food, and fine arts and crafts to go around. Be sure to stick around for the Mullet Toss - it’s a hoot!
3. Peanut Festival
If you only go to one fall festival in Mississippi this year, make it the Peanut Festival. The festival is held the first week in October at Mitchell Farms in Collins, Mississippi. This year marks over a dozen years of celebrations and promises to be one to remember. Over 75 vendors from all over the South come out to sell their crafts, plus there will be all of the pumpkin patch activities Mitchell Farms is known for.
4. Cleveland Oktoberfest
This Mississippi fall festival has a reputation for being one of the best outdoor festivals in the Delta, and we’d have to agree! Kids will love all of the activities just for them, including face painting, inflatable bounce houses, a rock climbing wall, and even train rides! Adults will enjoy the live music and the Mississippi Delta State Barbecue Championship, a very high honor for the winners. The two-day Cleveland Oktoberfest takes place in mid-October.
