4. Duff Green Mansion (1114 1st E. St., Vicksburg)
Another Vicksburg landmark known to be a paranormal hotspot, this mansion served as a hospital during the Civil War. Several ghosts have been spotted on the property, including one of the home’s original owners as well as numerous soldiers who most likely lost their lives in the mansion. One soldier in particular, a Confederate with a missing leg, can often be found sitting in front of the fireplace. For touring information, click here.
5. Deason Home (410 Anderson St., Ellisville)
The supernatural activities associated with this historic property date back to October 5, 1863, when Newton Knight shot Major McLemore inside the home. McLemore bled to death on the floor of the bedroom, leaving behind a bloodstain that soaked though the floorboards to the slab below. In recent years, the bloodstain was scrubbed and scrubbed but returned every time it rained. However, that’s not the only unusual occurrence that’s taken place in the home. According to paranormal investigators, there are at least five spirits in the home who have a penchant for violence. Phantom voices as well as spirits in period clothing have also been associated with the property. For touring information, click here.
6. Waverly Mansion (1852 Waverly Rd., West Point)
One of the most notorious haunts in Mississippi, Waverly Mansion is believed to be haunted by several restless spirits, including that of a little girl. The young apparition has made herself seen and heard on numerous occasions, as she can often be heard crying out, "Mama." Aside from the little girl, other ghosts said to haunt Waverly include a Confederate soldier who appears in mirrors behind residents and visitors and a ghost rider that patrols the property. And that’s all in addition to the phantom music and voices that are often heard coming from the parlor of Waverly. For more information, call (662) 494-1399.
7. Vicksburg National Military Park (3201 Clay St., Vicksburg)
Although this park is one of the most renowned in the entire country, many are unaware that it’s as haunted as it is historic. Over the years, there have been several reports of inexplicable occurrences at the park. One such instance involves the Pennsylvania Monument, which features the faces of five commanders. According to several reports, the faces appear, at times, to be crying tears of blood. The battlefield is also teeming with supernatural activity. Apparitions of soldiers, phantom sounds of battle, including cannons, gunfire, and shouted orders, and phantom smells of gunpowder and smoke have been reported.
