Sometimes, it's nice to get away from home for a night or two. But it can be expensive. Luckily, Minnesota is home to plenty of affordable stays that allow you to get a change of scenery without breaking the bank. Those interested in history - who aren't afraid of roughing it a little - will enjoy a stay at the secluded cabin we want to introduce today. It's a cabin that dates back to the Civil War era, and as of September 2021, it's available to rent for less than $100 a night! If that sounds good to you, read on below to learn about the Maynard Cabin:
The Maynard Cabin is a Civil War-era cabin in Long Prairie, Minnesota, about 130 miles northwest of the Twin Cities. Priced at just $70 a night, it's an affordable stay in a historic space.
The cabin was built around 1870 by a homesteader after the Civil War. In 1985, it was moved to its current location, where it now stands as a rustic yet beautiful rental cabin.
As soon as you step up, you'll see why the Maynard Cabin is worth a stay. The old-fashioned porch makes for a beautiful place to enjoy the scenery. There is even a set of rocking chairs where you can rock away your day.
The cabin is located in a scenic area of central Minnesota. Large trees shade the property, making for a beautiful space, especially in the fall. During warmer months, wildflowers grow on the property.
The cabin is also steps away from a quiet creek. What could be more peaceful than listening to the trickle of the creek as you walk alongside the moss-covered rocks? There's even an old footbridge to take you safely across the creek.
Inside, you'll find a rustic yet beautiful cabin. There's plenty of seating downstairs to accommodate up to four guests. A wood-burning stove will keep you warm in the winter.
There's also a full kitchen where you can create simple meals. There is no electricity here, but kerosene lanterns will light your nights. The bathroom consists of a washbasin and an outhouse.
When it comes time to sleep, you'll head upstairs, where there are two antique beds. Though this cabin is rustic, it is a peaceful place to immerse yourself in history and escape the hustle and bustle of your busy life!
