Michigan’s natural splendor is truly timeless. Those of us who’ve resided in Michigan for decades are lucky to live among wonderful outdoor destinations that retain their charm throughout the years, regardless of the stressors of everyday life. While our modern-day destinations are truly fantastic, there’s something magical about looking back at vintage captures of Michigan’s most gorgeous natural wonders. 1. Even during the 1950s, Glen Arbor’s famous dune climb was a major attraction. Do you have any childhood memories of running down these massive sandy hills?
2. Summertime beachgoers beat the heat in this fun vintage capture from Benzie State Park. Which state parks hold the most memories for you and your loved ones?
3. This black and white capture from 1922 proves that our beloved Pictured Rocks have always been a source of commanding beauty. We can only imagine that Lake Superior was delightfully blue when this photo was taken!
4. It doesn’t get much more magical than Lake of the Clouds in our stunning Porcupine Mountains, and this photo from 1930 is absolutely marvelous.
5. Have you ever enjoyed tubing down the peaceful Platte River? This undated photo, likely taken in the 1940s, captures the river’s beauty - even in black and white.
6. West Michiganders will certainly recognize this scene! Captured in the mid-1940s, this photo shows a fun day of water-skiing on Lake Macatawa in Holland.
