One incredible thing I love about the state of Michigan is that it is surrounded by four of the five Great Lakes. The state has the nation’s longest freshwater coastline (at 3,288 miles), so you know there will be tons to do on the water, on the coast, or a beach. That makes it an incredible place to visit in the summer (especially in July). With all of the coastlines and natural spots, there are seemingly endless ways to enjoy a beach or boating summer in Michigan – both in the Upper Peninsula and Michigan Lower Peninsula proper.

Although tree allergy season should be over in Michigan by July, you should still be aware of grass pollen and be prepared if you are outside enjoying the weather and have allergies!

The warm July days are calling! So, you should take a ferry ride over to Mackinac Island. Summer is the perfect time to visit Mackinac Island, as the island comes alive with vibrant colors, lots of things to do, and a bustling atmosphere. Whether you are there for the views, outdoor activities, shopping, or dining, there's plenty to enjoy when you explore one of the best places to visit in MI in July.
2. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore (Leelanau and Benzie counties)

Experiencing nature's majesty at Sleeping Bear Dunes is even better in the summer. With towering dunes, pristine beaches, and crystal-clear waters, this national lakeshore will draw you in during those hot July days! Just be careful, though: you don't want to get caught at the bottom of the dunes on an incredibly hot day, or you'll be in for a rude awakening. Traverse City hosts the National Cherry Festival, one of Michigan's most popular (and delicious) July festivals in Michigan. You can enjoy live music, parades, cherry-themed activities, attractions and rides, and delicious cherry-inspired treats -- which is one of the best parts.
7. Marquette Blueberry Festival (Marquette) - July 26
This is another fruit festival to add to the list...but it's one day only! If you're in the Marquette area, check out the Marquette Blueberry Festival. There will be live music, food vendors, and various activities centered around blueberries, including a blueberry pancake breakfast! Yum!
8. Ann Arbor Art Fair (Ann Arbor) - July 18 to July 20
I love the vibe of Ann Arbor, so if you've never spent much time in this college town, this July festival in MI is the place to be. The Ann Arbor Art Fair is a renowned event that showcases the work of artists from around the country. Explore the streets of downtown Ann Arbor filled with art booths, live music, food vendors, and interactive activities -- all while taking in the culture of this awesome community!

9. Charlevoix Venetian Festival (Charlevoix) - July 20 to July 27
If you haven't seen many boat parades in Michigan, but if you'd love the chance, then head to the Charlevoix Venetian Festival! There is a kind of magical atmosphere at the festival, with boat parades, fireworks, live music, and a full-blown carnival. Remember, you can't miss the night-time boat parade, as all of the vessels are decked out in sparkly lights! As you can see, this is one of the most colorful July festivals in Michigan.
10. Traverse City Film Festival (Traverse City) - EDITOR'S NOTE: Please note that this festival has been canceled.
Film buffs definitely should not miss the Traverse City Film Festival this July, which showcases a diverse selection of independent films. You can go to film screenings, panel discussions, and special events hosted by renowned filmmakers, all while picking up swag and meeting incredible members of this creative community. Also, who could say "no" to a dimly lit theater with air conditioning during the summer heat?
As you can see, there are so many things to do in Michigan this summer.
