"The Polar Express" is one of the most beloved Christmas stories of all time, and there’s a reason it’s endured throughout the years as both a children’s book and a feature film. But did you know that you can take your very own Polar Express train ride in Michigan? If you want to live out your childhood dreams, look no further than the North Pole Express.
The Steam Railroading Institute is stationed at 405 S. Washington Street in Owosso.
This year, from November 16th to December 21st, visitors can take a ride on the North Pole Express.
A ride on the North Pole Express is like something out of a holiday fairytale. For approximately four hours, passengers will be immersed in the joy of Christmas.
Upon boarding, you’ll be treated to hot cocoa as you marvel at the cozy atmosphere on the train.
The first segment of the train ride will last approximately an hour, winding through gorgeous snow-covered scenery.
Your ticket cost includes admission to Ashley’s Country Christmas, an exciting yuletide festival held in the nearby village of Ashley.
In Ashley, you’ll enjoy everything from carriage rides to holiday arts and crafts. Rumor has it that Santa Claus himself has even been known to make an appearance from time to time.
Following two hours at the Christmas festival, you’ll hop back aboard the North Pole Express and return to Owosso by train.
The North Pole Express is pulled by the world-famous Pere Marquette 1225 (also known as PM 1225) steam locomotive.
The blueprints for the PM 1225 were used as a model for the actual Polar Express in the 2004 film — talk about an authentic experience!
No matter your age, there’s something undeniably magical about the holidays. After a ride on the North Pole Express, you’ll be filled to the brim with Christmas spirit.
