Horton Bay General Store is located along Boyne City Road in beautiful Boyne City.
This magnificent local gem is one of the oldest general stores in Michigan, having first opened its doors in 1876. Whether you’re a regular visitor or a newcomer, you’ll quickly fall in love with its quaint atmosphere.
While every historical shop has its unique points, Horton Bay is extra special. After all, Ernest Hemingway himself spent time here during his younger years and even references the store in two books.
Despite its celebrity status, the general store is most beloved for its timeless vibes, friendly service, and picturesque surroundings. You’ll truly feel as if you’ve stepped into a simpler era when you visit.
In addition to the primary store area, Horton Bay features an on-site tavern, an upstairs bed and breakfast, and patio space where guests can enjoy a tapas lunch. All features are open for seasonal use.

Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L. An Instagram ad caught my eye during a late-night scroll session and I was intrigued by the colorful compartments and versatility of the bag, which can be carried as a duffle or as a backpack (I prefer the backpack for even weight distribution and airport navigation.) Why I Love It: Fact: Airplanes are notoriously dry, dry, dry. No matter how much water I drink both before and during the flight, I always find myself in a hydration deficit for days.
