Today, we’ll introduce you to a spectacular adventure that will take you to some of the most beautiful places in Michigan. Kick off your adventure by checking out one of the best fossil beaches in the state: Lighthouse Beach. This stunning spot along the shores of Lake Huron offers gorgeous views of the historic Fort Gratiot Lighthouse, in addition to plenty of shoreline space and fresh air. The beach features plenty of rocky sections where you’ll find unique rocks, Petoskey Stones, and sea glass galore. Does it get much more relaxing?
2. Blue Water River Walk
Next, spend a bit more time in Port Huron with a scenic adventure along the Blue Water River Walk, which offers visitors the chance to gaze out upon the St. Clair River in all its brilliance. There’s nearly a mile of land to peruse along the river, so this is an ideal place to stretch your legs after spending time in the car. Snap a few family photos, watch freighters pass by, or simply settle in for a relaxing experience.
When you’re through in Port Huron, it’s time to hop in the car and venture to Sleepy Hollow State Park. This underrated gem in Laingsburg is far less spooky than its name implies, offering visitors more than 2,600 gorgeous acres to explore. During your visit, take time to hike, ride your bike, admire forested splendor and fields, and appreciate a real sense of quietude. There’s even a campground for those who wish to extend their visit to Sleepy Hollow.
4. Nordhouse Dunes Wilderness Area
You’ve heard of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, but have you made memories at Nordhouse Dunes? This brilliant section of land along Lake Michigan is nothing short of magical, offering recreational opportunities for all ages and some of the most unforgettable scenery in the state. Enjoy a walk along the sandy shoreline, picnic among the dune grass, experience approximately ten miles of hiking trails, or simply snap a few photos. You’re sure to be enamored when you make a pit stop here.
5. Leland
After enjoying everything Nordhouse Dunes has to offer, enjoy a laid-back outing in the quaint town of Leland. It’s here that you’ll find Fishtown, a history-rich collection of long-standing fishing shanties and other buildings along the waterfront. Snag dinner at the Cove, watch as boats make their way to and from Lake Michigan, or do a bit of shopping throughout the area. No matter the season, you’ll be charmed by this spot.
While Petoskey State Park is smaller than some of its counterparts with only 303 acres, its impact is impossible to deny. This beautiful natural area is tucked away along the north end of Little Traverse Bay, an inlet of Lake Michigan. If you’re visiting during the warmer months, you’ll find an awesome beach where the whole family can splash, sunbathe, and unwind. There are also campsites split between two campgrounds, so you’ll have the option to stay overnight if you just can’t get enough of Petoskey State Park.
Upon venturing into the Upper Peninsula, the opportunities for scenic exploration only seem to increase for travelers – but we’re especially keen on Kitch-iti-kipi. This natural spring boasts some of the bluest waters you’ll ever find, hence the sense of magic that abounds throughout this Manistique area gem. 8. Fayette Historic State Park and Harbor
History fanatics will fall in love with Fayette Historic State Park and Harbor, which houses a ghost town that once operated as a bustling iron-mining community. Today, visitors will find an array of in-tact buildings that offer a glimpse into what life was like here in the 19th century – not to mention mind-blowing views of Big Bay De Noc and Snail Shell Harbor, inlets of Lake Michigan. You’ll feel as if you’ve stepped into another world when you spend time here.
