Let's not deny it - part of the magic of the holiday season are the millions and millions of sparkling lights and intricate holiday displays that grace the front yards, transform downtowns and make local businesses shine bright. Trick is, finding some of the most spectacular places to experience these stunning shows. That's where we come in. We've identified a bunch of totally illuminating places throughout Michigan that will give you an impressive light show.
9) Greenfield Village at The Henry Ford Museum, Dearborn
Greenfield Village at the Henry Ford Museum is fun all year around. During the holiday season, it gets even better, with a unique lantern-lit adventure through a living snow globe filled with skating, fireworks and live music. Festivities take place Dec. 11-13, 17-23, and 26-27. This is a ticketed event so make sure you plan accordingly.
8) Christmas Lite Show, Comstock Park
You'll find Michigan's largest Christmas lights display thanks to sponsorship by Fifth Third Ballpark. For $15 per car, this impressive drive-through show can be seen any night from 6 p.m.–9 p.m. through Jan. 3. For the kiddos, Santa will make an appearance Dec. 12-14 and 17-23.
7) Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad, Flint
Witness thousands of lights in this festive show that features tons of homes and businesses, all decked out for the holidays. Walk through the Village, where you'll come across vintage crafts and boutiques for Christmas shopping, hop of the Huckleberry Railroad, an historic locomotive that will whisk you by the twinkle show, or drive through every Monday night on your own.
6) Frankenmuth
Step into the world-famous Bronners Christmas Store, where you will find just about every Christmas ornament imaginable. You will feel the Christmas spirit here anytime of the year.
5) Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park
Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park's "Christmas and holiday traditions around the world" celebration through Jan. 4, featuring 400,000 lights, extended holiday hours to 9 p.m., Dec. 16-23, 26-27, and 29-30, plus carolers, rooftop reindeer and more than 40 trees and displays from around the globe.
4) Light Up The Bluff, St Joseph
You'll be dazzled by a 1 million-light wonder show along Lake Bluff Park. The display started Dec. 4 and runs through Valentine’s Day.
3) Near Rosa Parks Circle, Grand Rapids
Rosa Parks Circle is transformed into an ice skating rink this time of year and the surrounding area in downtown Grand Rapids becomes equally festive with this impressive display.
2) The Big Bright Light Show, Rochester
Spanning Nov. 23-Jan. 3, the businesses of downtown Rochester on Main Street from South Bridge to Romeo Road and Fourth Street from Walnut to Water streets are decked under a million-plus lights...wow.
1) Wayne County Lightfest, Westland
From 7-10 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays, and 6-10 p.m. Fridays through Sundays, Nov. 19-Dec. 31, beginning at 7651 Merriman Road in Westland, you'll come across four miles of sparkling light displays.
