Massachusetts is filled with beautiful places to camp out and enjoy a bit of nature. Down the Cape, we have scenic spots such as the North of Highland Camping Area and Bourne Scenic Park, and there is also the luxurious Normandy Farms in Foxborough. But did you know you can also go camping in Massachusetts during winter? There are only a few campgrounds where winter camping is offered and the Mohawk Trail State Forest Campground in Charlemont is one of these.
The Mohawk State Forest, established in 1921, spans over 7,500 acres and contains some of the oldest trees in the area. The forest is known for its stunning scenery as well as wonderful hiking trails and other outdoor activities.
Due to renovations, the campground has been closed for almost a year now. However, it is set to reopen in the coming weeks. Be one of the first to take advantage of all of the new upgrades!
You can enjoy all the beautiful winter scenery while you keep warm inside your cozy cabin. There are six winter cabins available (including one that is accessible).
Hiking and cross-country skiing are two of the activities that you can enjoy outside. Or if you don’t want to venture out, stay cozy in your cabin with a good book. This option sounds good to me!
Reservations can be made as early as January 11th.
Have you ever camped during the winter? If so, how was your cold-weather experience? Please visit the Mohawk Trail State Forest website to find out more about reserving a cozy cabin. And for the best winter camping gear, be sure to shop at L.L. Bean.
