One of my favorite outdoor activities is hiking with my family. We have been doing this for years, and it has become a wonderful activity we all enjoy. When my kids were younger, we started taking walks on rail trails. These repurposed hikes are great for beginners because they are typically well marked, flat, and have multiple spots where you can pick up the trail. Now that my kids are older, we have explored more difficult hikes. However, when we want to take an easy, laid-back walk in the woods, a rail trail always tops our list. We’ve shared some great Massachusetts rail trails like the Cape Cod Rail Trail and the Nashua River Rail Trail before, but the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail starting in Lowell is a newer walk that you may not have heard of – but let me tell you, it is worth checking out.
