Looking for one of the best beachcombing spots in Massachusetts? Wingaersheek Beach in Gloucester is a prime place to find shells, rocks, beach glass, and beautiful sand dollars. This lovely beach is also one of the prettiest spots in the state! Here’s why you should visit as soon as possible.
Wingaersheek Beach in Gloucester is heaven for shell collectors and sand dollar enthusiasts.
This stunning stretch of sand is home to fascinating tide pools packed with the remains of former residents (please don’t remove live creatures) and strewn with gorgeous shells.
The beach is also particularly known for its sand dollars, which can be found when the tide recedes.
Be aware that live sand dollars are also happy lodgers at this beach, and you should never pluck a living sea creature from the beach just for its shell.
When you’re done collecting shells and stones, make sure to enjoy the beautiful scenery! People travel from miles around to luxuriate in the soft white sand of Wingaersheek Beach.
The beach can get a little busy on warm summer days, but there’s usually always space to spread a beach blanket and relax. Don’t be surprised if you see plenty of other beachcombers at work!
Lingering for the sunset is always a good idea. Beach days don’t get much better than this!
Gloucester residents with a beach sticker can park right at the beach for no daily charge. Non-resident beach stickers may be purchased for longer-term visitors. Visitors without a beach sticker can bike in for free or pay the seasonal parking rate, which ranges from $20 to $35 depending on the date and time of day. Check online for current rates and visiting regulations.
