Maryland has a handful of covered bridges left and you may have even seen some in person. Although all of them are full of history, the following covered bridge is the oldest, said to date all the way back to 1843. If you’re a history buff and love a bit of scenery (or love old architecture), consider visiting this local gem. Bring your camera to capture the sights!

Utica Mills Covered Bridge is one of three covered bridges in Frederick County. This one is in Thurmont, to be exact.

You'll find it hiding on Utica Road, which is a great area for a scenic drive as well.

Although old documents show that this covered bridge was constructed in 1850, many believe that it it actually dates back to 1843.

It was originally built over Monocacy River but was washed away due to flooding in 1889. It was then rebuilt at its current location, over Fishing Creek.
