You can visit the canal year-round but spring is when the towpath and other surrounding trails are colorful with blooms. Be sure to bring a camera because you'll want to remember the enchanting sights.

What could smell sweeter than a lavender farm? Well, nothing that I can think of. This spot opens for the season in May and is the perfect place to pick lavender and soak in the warm day.

6. Historic St. Mary's City
Maryland's oldest town is full of history and spring is when two particularly memorable events happen. Check out Maryland Day on March 25th with a celebration of Maryland traditions. Also mark May 1st on your calendar, as May Day is filled with fun events for the whole family, including dancing around the maypole.

Many people consider this to be the most impressive garden in Maryland. You could spend hours seeing all of the plants and flowers and be sure to take some time to relax by the water.
