One of the great things about our state is that there is no shortage of charming towns in Maryland. There’s always a fun day to be spent exploring one small town or another, wandering about in the mountains, or swimming in the rivers. And if you’re in the mood to wander, be it on foot or on a bike, there’s no better town to do so than Columbia. Columbia is a town that’s absolutely crisscrossed by bike baths and that’s chock-full of beautiful scenery to explore. And with concert venues, an ice rink, and plenty of places for the kids to frolic in the meadows, you’ll surely want to make Columbia the next stop on your destination list.
Columbia is home to the Lakefront Plaza Stage, a live music venue on one of the many lakeshores that speckle the town. It’s one of my favorite places to lounge on the lawn or enjoy a meal at one of the nearby restaurants.
With bike paths and paved trails everywhere, nowhere is far out of reach for cyclists and pedestrians in this town. You can wander along the lakefront or beneath the trees and traverse the entire town with relative ease.
There are plenty of places to stop beneath a shade tree and enjoy a picnic, which is a much-needed pleasure for me on summer days. Most of them have picnic tables as well, so feel free to pack a lunch and enjoy the warm breeze!
There are tons of places in Columbia where wildflowers bloom abundant and free. Here at the lakefront, there’s a slide built into the side of the hill, and it runs through a collection of Black-eyed Susans.
During the cooler months, Columbia’s ice rink proves to be a welcome evening hangout if you enjoy hot chocolate and skating to disco music like I do.
With all the activities available, plus gorgeous views like this one, I wouldn’t blame you if you start booking your trip right now!
Columbia happens to be one of the best spots in Maryland for summer wildflower viewing, so be sure to swing by if you’re a bit of a nature nut. And if you’re interested in visiting, this cozy booking from Vrbo can help get you started!
