1. Ocean Pines
Ocean Pines is a peaceful community located near Ocean City, Maryland. As of this year, the violent crime rate fell to under 1 per 1,000 persons (0.7 to be exact), making Ocean Pines one of the safest cities in Maryland. Property crime is a bit higher but still extremely low, at a rate of 5.9 per 1,000. If you want a place to live where you won't have to worry about the safety of your kids, consider Ocean Pines.
2. Hampstead
This Carroll County spot is quiet and safe, with a violent crime rate of 1.1 per 1,000 people and a property crime rate of 4.8 per 1,000. Hampstead is a popular spot to raise a family, with a mix of city and rural surroundings. It's definitely one of the safest neighborhoods in Maryland.
3. Glenarden
Prince George's County is full of gems, including the area of Glenarden. As of 2021, the violent crime rate fell to a mere 0.6 per 1,000 people. Property crime is at 8.7 per 1,000. Along with being a great place to live, this area is also perfect for shopping, especially when it comes to the pictured Woodmore Towne Centre. You'll never run out of lovely experiences if you move to or visit Glenarden.
4. Centreville
Centreville is another Maryland spot that has recently been recorded as having a crime rate of less than 1 per 1,000 residents (0.8). Property crime comes in at 8.0. This area in Queen Anne's County is charming and historic, including old buildings that are full of character. If you're looking for some small-town charm, you'll absolutely find it in Centreville.
5. Mount Airy
Mount Airy is a nice, safe, town that can be found in both Carroll and Frederick County. The violent crime rate is the lowest on this list, at 0.5 per 1,000 people. 6. Berlin
Berlin, Maryland was named The Coolest Small Town in America by Budget Travel in 2014, and it looks like it's one of the safest small towns, too. Berlin's violent crime rate is only 0.6 per 1,000 people. The property crime rate is 13.8. This Worcester County spot has a lot to offer, including plenty of fun events, and is perfect for families. 7. Thurmont
The mountain town of Thurmont located in Frederick County is picturesque and safe. The violent crime rate for 2021 is 2.2 per 1,000 persons. The property crime rate comes in at 6.2. With a ton of surrounding hiking spots, this area is perfect for some outdoor therapy. If you love relaxing in nature, Thurmont is the spot for you.
8. Taneytown
Founded in 1754, this Carroll County area is full of history. It's also full of safety, with a violent crime rate of 1.9 per 1,000 people and a property crime rate of 9.4. Quite a few notable people were from Taneytown, including Generals. Live among history (and enjoy peace of mind) when settling down here. History buffs and lovers of small-town charm alike will love Taneytown.
9. Bowie
Bowie is the largest municipality in Prince George's County, and it's also relatively safe as well. The violent crime rate in Bowie is currently at 1 per 1,000 people. However, property crime is the highest on this list, at 15.2. There are numerous parks and lakes around Bowie, though, so there are plenty of spots where you can enjoy the scenery safely.
10. Havre de Grace
The waterside town of Havre de Grace in Harford County is full of beauty and will certainly bring you peace of mind. The violent crime rate currently comes in at 2.6 per 1,000 people and the property crime rate is 11.9. There's no better place in Maryland to enjoy beautiful strolls from morning to night. The water views are absolutely marvelous.
