Why wait until summer to enjoy a weekend getaway? Previously, we featured day trips to take near Baltimore and today, we're highlighting spots that are a bit further, yet so worth the drive. Check out these 10 quick road trips you can take from Baltimore. You'll be glad you did.
1. Deep Creek Lake
Deep Creek Lake is about a three hour drive from the city. This western Maryland gem is the state's largest lake and is perfect for water activities. Boat, jet ski, fish, or swim among this pretty spot.
2. Ocean City
In good traffic, the Ocean is about a two and a half hour drive from Baltimore. Splash around in the water, stroll up and down the boardwalk, and pig out on seafood galore. There's nothing quite like a weekend trip in OCMD.
3. Harpers Ferry
This spot is closer than you think! It only takes about an hour and 15 minutes to arrive at Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. This rustic spot has a charming downtown, or hike the surrounding area for plenty of wondrous views.
4. Solomons
Drive an hour and 45 minutes to Solomons Island, which is THE spot for a stunning sunset view. This quaint area is great for a quiet day among scenery.
5. Assateague Island
Watch wild horses roam at this barrier island on the eastern shore. You can even camp out right on the beach, awakening to sandy views during the day and stargazing at night. At two hours and 45 minutes away, the drive is worth it.
6. Thurmont
If you love the great outdoors, don't miss out on the town of Thurmont. It's a little over an hour away and offers scenic state parks, historic covered bridges, and more. Grab your hiking boots and go!
7. Chesapeake City
Chesapeake City is another delightful town that's only about an hour away. It's situated right on the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal, so you can watch ships pass by throughout the day. Enjoy the local shops and eateries while you're there.
8. Rehobeth Beach
Delaware's most popular beach is within reach - being two and a half hours away. Walk along the boardwalk and take in the sights of the Atlantic Ocean. This summery spot is full of things to do.
9. St. Mary's City
Drive two hours south to find St. Mary's City. This historic spot is Maryland's first town and they pay tribute to the past with reenactments, authentic colonial clothing, and more. This makes for a great trip with family.
10. Swallow Falls State Park
Travel a little over three hours to the amazing Swallow Falls State Park. You can find a few waterfalls here, including the pictured Muddy Creek Falls. This place is beautiful to see in person.
