What Baltimore foods is the city known for? The Maryland metropolis knows good food - especially seafood. There is lots to see in Baltimore including a dynamic art scene and rich history, but when you're visiting the area, be sure to add a few restaurants to your list. 1. Steamed Blue Crabs
Maryland is known for blue crabs, and that includes Baltimore as well. There are plenty of restaurants in Charm City that know how to steam 'em and spice 'em just right. There's some work involved to get to the meat of these delicacies but we promise it's worth the effort.
2. Crab Cakes
Don't miss out on crab cakes when visiting the city. I'm drooling just thinking about it. This is a great way to experience the famous Maryland crab without having to take apart each individual leg by yourself.
3. Bergers Cookies
These fudgy cookies make the perfect dessert or sinfully good snack. It's nearly impossible to eat just one. These cookies date back in the Berger family legacy to 1835, so they've had a lot of time to perfect that recipe.
4. Oysters
The Chesapeake Bay is rich with oysters, so plenty of area eateries make this a main menu item. We know oysters are a divisive food, but you can get them fried if the raw factor creeps you out. Are you an oyster fan?
5. Old Bay
You can find this seasoning sprinkled on everything from eggs to fries to seafood. What can we say, if it works it works. If you're wondering what food is Baltimore known for, this seasoning is on a lot of them!
6. Sno-Balls
Summer isn't summer without a sno-ball melting down your arm. These delectable shaved ice and syrup confections make any warm day that much brighter.
7. Natty Boh
National Bohemian, also known as Natty Boh, is not only an iconic beer, but Mr. Boh is an iconic character in Baltimore. Sometimes you'll even spot him at Orioles games. Whether you're sipping in the stands, at a restaurant, or on the waterfront, it's a perfect pick-me-up beverage.
8. Ledo's PIzza
It's hip to be square at Ledo's pizza. This is a perfect party pizza, for sure. Don't let the square shape alarm you, the flavors in this pizza are pure Baltimore foods perfection.
9. Utz Chips
Baltimoreans love munching and crunching on Utz chips, especially the crab variety. We know, you're seeing a crab theme. Although the chip originated in Pennsylvania, it's always been heavily sold in the Baltimore area.
10. Chicken Box
Fried chicken and wings are almost an art form in Charm City. Find a place that makes them just how you like, and order a box. Don't forget to order sauce! The right amount of creamy goodness can make all the difference in a chicken box.
11. Coddie
Coddies are an old-fashioned fried codfish cake made with cod and potato. See, we eat fish other than crab here. This Baltimore food goes way back, and now it's hard to find a coddie in Charm City. However, if you'd like to try one, you can find it at Faidley's in Lexington Market. They're delicious, so we're not quite sure why they went out of fashion.
