The Glenn Dale Tuberculosis Hospital and Sanatorium was a health facility located in Glenn Dale, MD that closed it's doors in 1981, due to asbestos. After several proposals of possible renovation or demolition fell through, the creepy facility still stands to this day. The campus has several buildings, all of which are dilapidated, infested with wildlife, and splashed with graffiti. Rumors swirl about apparition sightings and other haunted happenings throughout the halls of the institution. No matter what you believe, one thing is for certain... there is no place like Glenn Dale Sanatorium in Maryland.
Before even stepping inside the buildings, you can already see the poor condition they were left in.
Nature intertwines with the buildings, as vines creep into the nooks and crannies of windows and doorways.
Peeling paint and a vague graffiti message are just the beginning of this eerie tour.
A kitchen that once used to feed several hundred ill patients, is now left in ruins.
Light shines on this ghostly resting place.
This dark, gloomy hallway is almost sinister.
The ceilings are full of holes and often randomly collapse, making this a very unsafe structure.
The ceiling is completely gone from this room, leaving it in shambles.
There are several underground tunnels, most of which now contain a few feet of standing water. The tunnel pictured here leads out of the Children's Building.
This staircase full of twists and turns still stands strong while the walls crumble around it.
With so much destruction due to vandalism and natural weathering, it's hard to imagine what Glenn Dale looked like during its glory days.
Although Glenn Dale Sanatorium stands abandoned, there's something so interesting about it.
NOTE: Only In Your State does not recommend traveling to this location, as it is considered trespassing. Maybe just stick with the photos on this one. :-)
