Being in Maine during the winter doesn't mean that you have to avoid all of your favorite activities. In fact, things are better in the winter. And, now that there's some solid snowfall - the world of opportunities has expanded! Snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, tubing - the list goes on and on. Today we bring you another winter activity that is oftentimes left only for warmer weather - hiking! Try this fun and easy hike for some good, winter outdoor fun!
This 2-mile, round trip hike is located in beautiful Blue Hill, Maine.
It has only a minimal elevation gain and should only take about an hour and a half.
There are two trailheads, but the Osgood Trail is a great one to begin with.
It can be accessed by parking in the Osgood Parking lot. Head across the street and keep an eye on the fairly well-marked trail heading upwards.
You'll cross a bridge, and then begin the portion of the trail that's slightly steeper than the rest. Get it out of the way early is what we always say! Soon, you'll come to another bridge. From here, stay on the left.
Next, you'll come to a few downhill areas.
Head up the large rock face you'll soon see and you'll be presented with the first view of the larger area from the trail.
Once you reach the the top you'll see a sign directing you to go down the mountain (a left turn) or up the mountain (a right turn.) You'll want to keep heading up!
And, keep on going until you get to the flat portion of the top!
You've made it! Here you can take in the incredible view. Don't rush down the mountain - stay awhile and enjoy it.
This is also a great area for dogs!
Once you've had all you need of awesome views, you can take the same trail down.
We love this trail when it's covered in snow.
There's something about the stillness and the freshness that makes Maine look crisp and sunny!
But the views on a cloudy day are phenomenal as well.
