The salty breezes of Maine aren't hard to find. Not when so much of the state borders the ocean! This is one of the most characteristic elements of time spent in Maine. You can find it by visiting the beach for the day, but these days we're looking for more unique ways to enjoy the coast. A drive is always nice, but there's nothing quite like being outside. This trail will take visitors along the coast for one of our favorite ways to enjoy nature Downeast.
Bar Harbor is one of the most scenic areas in Maine. With coastal access and, of course, the home of Acadia National Park there are a lot of reasons to make a trip here.
The route begins in town, with plenty of places to stop and sit to enjoy the view. As the route continues the path becomes more of a hard, packed gravel.
There are places to detour along residential streets, too. This makes it easy to create more of a loop without doing the entire 1.5-mile out-and-back journey.
While the trail is not officially accessible for all, strollers and wheelchairs can make the journey as long as the path is packed. This would be anytime there hasn't been recent rain. Of course, you'll want to check conditions before setting out as there's no guarantee that the quality of the trail stays the same for the entire route.
The Bar Harbor Shore Path can be accessed year-round and is said to be best for walking, hiking, running, and even fishing. You can learn more about it by visiting this page on alltrails.com. And don't forget the pups! As long as they're on a leash, they're more than welcome to enjoy the experience.

Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L. You won't be too far away if you need anything, but when you are on the lake, you will feel like you're a million miles away. The water is peaceful and calm, and chances are, you will not see a single soul around. And who wouldn't want to spend time at one of the most peaceful lakes in Maine?
One of the more surprising facts about Cobbossee is the lighthouse.
Ladies Delight Light is Maine’s only lake island lighthouse. Only accessible by boat, this beautiful white citadel sits upon its island as if it was plucked from the coast and brought to the lake. There is a small island to explore, and the views are incredible.
This lake is also known nationally for its aggressive and big Largemouth Bass.
Fishing is always good on the lake and many people will tell you the stories of what is out there for fish lurking under the water. If you choose to go swimming, also note that the Largemouth Bass are not the only aggressive creatures -- snapping turtles like to make a quick snack of unsuspecting swimmers.
There are many great places to stay on and around the lake.
Places to stay like this cabin on its own private island will really get you out in nature and enjoy this beautiful and peaceful spot. Many other cabins are also on this huge lake that borders five different small Maine towns: Litchfield, Manchester, Monmouth, West Gardiner, and Winthrop.

As activities wind down and the evening comes to a close, the sunsets are brilliant.
Once the painted colors in the sky fade away, you are met with the most amazing display of stars in the night sky. It’s just another perk of being on this peaceful lake. Spend one day here and you'll agree that it's one of the best lakes in Maine!
