Maine is a haven for locally-grown produce, fresh seafood, and a bustling culinary scene where you can find scrumptious flavors at every turn. We’re lucky to have a vast selection of farm-to-table restaurants in Maine to choose from and if you’d like to try one of the best of these, you must go to The Hoot in Northport.
The Hoot was once a Mexican restaurant that closed for several years until Anna Poto bought the building. She and her father, who runs Breludin Farm, worked together to renovate the place and turned it into a wonderful farm-to-table restaurant. His farm is one of the meat suppliers for the restaurant.
Anna and Jon Poto have sold the restaurant and are working with the new owners for a smooth transition and the restaurant will stay the same to continue bringing the same quality to customers. That’s especially good because the interior is so lovely and provides such gorgeous views of the trees.
You can get even more of those spectacular views on the patio and enjoy a warm day with a wonderful meal with the freshest local ingredients that come from adjacent and nearby farms with free-range meat, fresh herbs, and vibrant produce.
The Hoot excels when it comes to brunch. The lemon-buttermilk pancakes with strawberries and citrus butter topped with locally produced Gray Jay maple syrup are a winner. Yum!
There are many internationally inspired dishes as well like a hearty huevos rancheros. You’ll also find global favorites like banh mi, Tuscan polenta & eggs, Peruvian arroz chaufa, North African green shakshuka, and more.
The Hoot hosts occasional dinners as well, focusing on a theme and providing a vast menu selection. It will host, for example, an international dinner series of Latin & Caribbean cuisine with creative cocktails and the ingredients are from farms within 25 miles of the restaurant.
You saved room for dessert, right? How about a delectable apple cider donut? You can also get a yummy Belgian waffle or rhubarb shortcake that will delight your taste buds. There is so much on the menu that you’ll want to keep coming back to try new things.
