We have so many beautiful hiking trails in Maine of varying difficulties. A lovely stroll through the woods is always a good time, however, sometimes we want something that’s more challenging and has a rewarding payoff at the end. One such trail is the Little Jackson Mountain Trail in Maine. This rugged and remote hiking trail in Maine is certainly worth the effort.
The Little Jackson Mountain Trail is a 5.7-mile out-and-back trail that is rated as challenging. It takes a little over four hours to hike, but you’ll want to allocate the day for it as you’ll find yourself wanting to stop and admire so many of the beautiful views along the way.
Many parts of the trail are rugged and rocky, so bring a good pair of hiking boots along. The pristine air here is so refreshing and the sounds of birdsong and the breeze through the branches will soothe you.
Some areas have walking boards to ease the hike and give you a bit of a break. It’s great during the winter season and this is a rather popular place for snowshoeing and birding. It’s a lovely trail any time of year.
You’ll find all sorts of beautiful surprises, like streams and a couple of ponds, along this trail. It’s probably not potable but it certainly adds to the beauty of this hiking trail.
As you climb in elevation, you’ll start getting glimpses of the panoramic views that await you at the top. If you come during spring and summer, you’ll be greeted by wildflowers and very likely some wildlife.
We’re almost at the top now. The lush forests spread into the distance and you can see a pristine lake in the valley. Did you bring your best friend along? Dogs are welcome on this gorgeous trail!
Would you look at that? Any time of year, when you reach the summit, the view is simply jaw-dropping. It’s such a wonderful reward and is so worth the effort of hiking this trail. You may even want to come back and do it all over again.
