If it were up to us, we'd have the chance to escape into the forest each and every day any time we wanted. Unfortunately, things like this are not up to us and the responsibilities of real life tend to take priority. But that doesn't mean we can't take a walk through the woods when we do have the time. If you have trouble carving out afternoons on your own, plan on attending this weekend's fun romp through the woods led by a guide.
Mayor Baxter Woods in Portland offers 30 acres of nature preserve land with a 1.5-mile network of trails.
The park, a gift from Percival Baxter in 1946, is easy to navigate.
While the trails are well-marked, we love the idea of being led through with an experienced guide.
On Sunday, August 28th, 2021, you'll have the opportunity to do that with the Baxter Woods Forest Immersion led by guide-in-training Caitlin Cameron.
The forest therapy walk will give you the chance to understand and feel all the benefits that the forest offers. This includes clearing your head and boosting your immune system!
This time of year you can expect lots of green trees, but in just a few weeks or months the park will be awash in color. So if you can't make it now, you have something else to look forward to.
The forest is open to visitors in the winter, too. So be sure to check it out in all seasons.
This weekend's forest walk will meet at the Stevens Avenue entrance to Baxter Woods. This is located on the 9a/9b METRO line. Remember to bring anything you might need for being outside, including sunscreen, a hat and a mask. Then, get ready to enjoy yourself!
The Forest Therapy Walkthrough Mayor Baxter Woods in Portland takes place Sunday, August 28th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The event is free, but there's a suggested donation of $12. You can learn more about it and reserve your ticket by checking out this website. If you'd like to visit Mayor Baxter Woods on your own, check out this page on Maine Trail Finder.
If you can't make the walk this weekend, try to make plans for your own outdoor time. The hike to Maine's pretty little Jordan Pond is short and sweet!
