We're not happy to admit it - especially since it's been a bit hit or miss in Maine this year - but summer will soon begin to wind down. Wait! Don't despair. We may be headed straight for autumn, but we've still got some solid weeks of warm weather before that happens. To make the most of it, we recommend taking advantage of all the things that can only be done now. One example? This waterpark!
Funtown Splashtown in Saco is Northern New England’s largest water and amusement park.
The park has been around since 1960, when Ken and Violet Cormier opened the Marvel Drive-In.
Over the next 50+ years, the original idea morphed into what is now one of the best days you can have in Maine!
The water park at Funtown Spashtown is huge, offering fun for both kids and adults.
Those looking for faster rides will love things like the Thunder Falls Log Flume, the Mammoth, Tornado and Mount Olympus water slides.
To take a trip to the Caribbean without leaving the state, head to Pirates Paradise which is a themed laid-back attraction in the park.
After a day of enjoying the many water slides and attractions, you might just want to chill out for a little while.
You can choose to sit by the pool, or you can simply cool off by enjoying the waterfalls and shallow pools.
Adults will love the bumper boats!
And, kids will love getting to feel like they're a part of the big-kid rides.
THEN, be sure to make your way to the amusement park to enjoy things like Thunderbolt, Wild Mouse Coaster, Bumper Cars, Grand Prix Racers and the Astrosphere.
And, don't forget the wooden rollercoaster!
Funtown Splashtown is located at 774 Portland Avenue in Saco. You can call them on (207) 284-5139. If you're local, it's easy to drive and park. But, if you're in the area for a visit, the park is reachable using the OOB Trolley from the Old Orchard Beach Chamber of Commerce or the Amtrak Downeaster at the Old Orchard Beach Station. Check them out online at the website or Facebook.
