Grab your sneakers, because there's one incredible hiking area that's home to one of the most unique hiking trails in Louisiana. History lovers and nature lovers will have a blast exploring the Woodlands Conservancy, and here's why:
Hiding in the heart of Belle Chasse, the Woodlands Conservancy is an ideal spot to spend a day exploring the great outdoors.
The 630-acre preservation area plays an important role in protecting critical forested wetlands, not to mention providing a home for countless wildlife and migratory birds.
There are over 10 miles of trails that will take you through the area.
There’s even an equestrian trail, in case you wanted to bring your gentle giant out for some adventure.
If you’re on a time crunch, the Upland Trail Loop Is a quick and easy one-mile loop that’s great for those days when you want a change of scenery but don’t have the time to dedicate en entire afternoon.
But if you have the time, the Bottomland Trail is a must-see.
The 5.5-mile trail has some lovely water and forest views, but the real attraction is found towards the end of the trail.
It’s not everyday you run across a grouping of WWII Ammunition Magazines, but that’s exactly what’s waiting for you.
In 1939, about 5,000 acres of the surrounding peninsula was used to store ammunition during World War II.
While the magazines haven’t held any ammunition in decades, they are a fascinating reminder of the past.
Go ahead and take a peep inside. Just remember to leave the place as you found it so future generations can enjoy it as well.
